2007 Amway WPA Womens WC
Hi everybody! The 48 best women in the world are now in Taiwan determend who is the best of the best. A record of 23 countries are participating, and it is all a big Show here. Videoland ( a TV company in Asia) is covering every round live. The arena is set up at the Tai Mall, which is a huge shopping center. It is quite the challenge to concentrate with all the spectators, TV cameras and kids on rollerblades. But it is the same for everybody. And to be honest with you, it is not as difficult as it sounds. The players are devided into 8 groups with 6 players in each. And the 3 best in every group gets to play on saturday and single elimination. In the group we play a race to 5, alternet break. I have to say that my first 5 matches was not impressive. But I managed to finish third in my group, so I will be in the single elimination tomorrow. Hopefully I will find my game by then.

European Pool Championships coming up for Line
After some busy last few months (that's why there are no new updates) on the 15th off march the 11th European Championships are coming up for Line. Because the EPBF site only shows the all time winners of men, i want to give you an overview of what Line has accomplished in the last 10 years. It's amazing to see her list of medals. In 1997 she started off with an individual silver medal in 9-ball and a gold medal together with her team. Which by the way was an all team effort by a group of young inspired women and is still the talk of the "town". Last year in Brandenbourg she toulk her revenge off playing badly in 8 and straight by winning the most prestigious one... 9-ball! As reigning champion, this year she will try to do what was never done before.... winning all 3 of them. And wouldn't that be the crown on a decate job welldone.
Overview:
8 ball 2004 Gold in Tjechie 2002 Silver in Finland
9-ball 2006 Gold in Germany 2000 Silver in Austria 1999 Brons in Poland 1997 Silver in Norway
Straight 2005 Brons in the Netherlands 2004 Gold in Tjechie 2003 Silver in Poland 2001 Gold in Tjechie 1999 Brons in Poland
Those medals put her in the top 12 of all time winners ( including the men)
Team 2001 Silver in Tjechie 1999 Silver in Poland 1997 Gold in Norway
Cheers and in god hell in Liberec!

day 3-4 Scandinavian 8-ball battle.
All rihgt... I fished third in my group. Now for the play-offs. My opponent was Per Yngvar Hodnebrog from Norway. I knew before the match that he is a good player. In the play-offs we played a different format than earlier in the tournament. Now it was best out of 5 sets, race to 3 in each set. The match didnt start so good for me. I lost the first set. Then i managed to win the second set. 1-1. But unfortunatly i couln't keep it up. He was breaking great and playing really god. I lost the match 1-3. And that was it for me this time.
Niels Feijen won the tournamet after a really exhighting final. Congratulation.

Day 2 8-ball battle of Scandinavia
Well I have to say that Thursday was not my day at the table. I made so many unforced errors. And in this company you cant. My first match against the sweedish player Niclas Fahlstedt I lost 5-1. And on the TV table later in the afternoon I lost 5-3 to Rune Bratbergsengen. That match was devestating to loose. I was down 3-0 and came back 3-3. Then I had my chance to run out, but thoose easy mistakes just killed me. No I have to win the match tomorrow to get through.

Euro Tour in Malaga Spain
The last Euro-Tour in 2006 was held in Malaga, Spain 7th to the 10th of December. It is one of the most popular tour stop and there were 260 participants.
My first match was against Jochen Sannwald from Germany. It is not really much to say about the match. I lost 10-5. I couldn’t get into it. And unfortunately that seemed to be the story all through the tournament. My first match in the loser’s bracket I played James Leeson from Great Britain. It was a match filled with lots of mistakes from both players. And I felt like I was not capable to do more than two balls in a row. I managed to win 10-9. Then I was up against Diego Pedreo Simone from Spain. You could say I picked it up where I left off in the previous match. And it didn’t get any better as I went along. It was a struggle from beginning till end. But also in this match I managed to get to 10 before my opponent did.
On Friday Juha Rajaniemi from Finland was waiting. Again it turned out to be a match of struggle. Juha pulled the longest straw, and won 10-7. And that was it for me in Spain this year.
Fabio Petroni beat Niels Feijen in the final match to win the tournament.

IPT qualifier Oslo
I decided in the last minute to enter the IPT qualifier in Oslo on the 15th off September. And man……am I glad I did.
There where only five players competing for the two spots in Las Vegas. But that did not mean the competition was easy.
My first match I played Roger Lysholm from Norway. He is the nr 1 ranked in Norway at the moment. The match started a little tentative from both players. I don’t know about Roger, but I was defiantly very nervous. Half way through the match Roger snapped out of it and started playing really well. He won the match 10-3.
So I had to take the long way to get to Vegas. In my first match in the losers bracket Lars Harald Riiber was waiting for me. He has a lot of international experience from playing on the national team for many years. He has also traveled around the world doing trick shot exhibitions. It was a tough match to play. But I managed to pull it off winning 10-4.
In my next match I played Kim Garmark. He was the one who eliminated me from the last qualifier in Oslo, so it was time for revenge. I was ahead the whole match, breaking good, not making to many mistakes, 4 break and runs I think. But at the score 9-6 I let him back on the table. The tied the score 9-9, and was on his way to close the door on me. But he hooked himself on the 8-ball and gave me a last chance to take it home. I didn’t have to be asked twice. 10-9. Phjjjuuuu! Still alive.
Then we where ready to judgment day. Winner goes to Vegas, looser stays home. Again it was Roger and me. This was going to be a thriller match. We both played really well. Roger had 4 breaks and run, I had 6. It went back and forward the whole match. I was up 5-2, then Roger was leading 6-5, then I was in front 7-6. Then I didn’t get on the table until the score was 9-7 Roger. He scratch on the break and gave me an opportunity. I ran that rack, and broke and ran the next two to win the match 10-9. Juhhuuuu!!!!!!
Kari Paloheimo from Finland, went through on the winner side and will be joining me in Vegas.

IPT qualifier Oslo
Since the IPT qualifier was held in Oslo at the same time as the Norwegian Championship for women, I had to choose between the two of them. At the last minute I decided to go for the IPT qualifier.
We started playing Friday at noon. And in my first match I played Rune Bratbersengen. Neither of us played our best game, but Rune got his act together in the end and won.
In the first match in the loser’s bracket, I played a Swedish player, Richard Dahlgren. That match ended up being a thriller, I won 10-9. Phjuu!!!! Then I was facing a snooker player from Holland, Stefan Mazrocis. That was a though match. A lot of safeties. But it went my way 10-8.
Next round was against Kim Garmark, I knew he was in good shape. I struggled a lot in this match. I made balls on every break, but I just couldn’t run out. That is just 8-ball for you; sometimes it just gets really difficult. I just couldn’t snap out of it. Kim eventually got his game under control, and knocked me out to my IPT dream for this time.
But I will try again. That is for sure.

Stockholm August 6-11
Going to Stockholm was a success as I expected. It was just the right mixture of fun and serious practice. By the end of the five days you just with you had more time. We started on Sunday going to visit Lennart Haag, who lives about three hours outside Stockholm. He is one of Sweden’s legendary carom players and a cue maker. It is always a lot going on there. There is a game room where you can play caroms, dart, music, etc -the hang out room. Then we played horse-shoe-throwing, a very difficult game you ask me. He also took us out on the lake nearby, so we could see the beautiful nature in Sweden and so that those of us who wanted could go swimming. Each year he also has a surprise for us. This time he decided to set up a pool table in his carport. It was quite the experience. It was a mixture of I think three different tables and Lennart, the cue maker, made quite interesting pool cues for us to play with. It was branches from a tree where he put ferrules and tips on. It was a lot of fun .
On Monday evening we where back in Stockholm again. Back into business! Henke and me started out early in the morning practicing, had a break for lunch, and then back into it again. We went through different shots from the PAT system, played matches and evaluated it in the evening. All I can say about this is a lot of “geist”, as Henke would put it. We are looking into doing this again later this year.

Newsletter August
August is now here and I’m again getting ready for action. I have two main things going on.
From the 6th till the 11th of August I will be in Stockholm, Sweden. Henrik Larson has a pool-school for women going on every summer. And as I did last year, I’m going there to be guest instructor for one night. This pool-school has become a tradition, and I’m very happy to be a part of it.
The rest of my days with Henrik in Stockholm we will spend practicing. Most of the time we will concentrate on the PAT system, particularly PAT 3. The both of us have taken the PAT 3 test some time back. And we are now eager to see if the practice the last few months has paid off. (If you want to know more about PAT go to www.pat-billiard.com)
In August I will also attend the Norwegian championship 8-ball for women, seniors and juniors. This tournament will be held in Bryne, just outside Stavanger, from the 20th to the 21st of August. It is a tournament I hope to win. And thanks to the IPT, the game of 8-ball is now getting a second wind. Everybody is now cleaning dust of their 8-ball skill. I am no exception. It is particularly my break I need to improve.
This is pretty much August for me. Not the busiest month when it comes to tournaments. But that gives me more time to practice and get ready for the tournaments coming later this year. Hope everybody had a great summer, but remember it is now time to get back into the poolrooms and get into it again.
Love, Line

Day 2 and 3
Monday at 10.30 it was time for my second match. I took an early 4-0 lead and it never really got close. I won comfortably 9-4 against Biddle. Tuesday my opponent was Shin Mei Lou from Taiwan. She is a former world champion, and I knew I had to play well to beat her. It was not a great match. On my behalf I can say that I had a hard time focusing. My mind didn’t seem to want to play pool today, it was more interrested in the weather and stuff. I got all the chances I needed to win but I just couldn’t pull it off. I lost 9-6. Very frustrating!!!!! So now I don’t play again until thursday morning. Don’t know against who yet. The matches Wednesday will determend that.

Second succes day !!
The second win is in the pocket! I'm guessing that Line wil tell her own story about the match later on ! Angelina Paglia defeated Jon Jones and Corr. That much for my prediction that Line probably had to play Karen Corr for a place among the best after winning from Mei Lin. (I should not forget Minerich or Kelly Fisher in between those games)
Go girl!

BCA-Open Las Vegas 14-20/5/2006
Day 1
So…..Then we are here in Vegas again. Ready for action, ready to roll the dice. All jet-laged, waking up at 5 am in the morning, ready to go to bed at 6 pm. 37 degrees outside, f.... freezing inside. Pool players everywhere. Talking about that ball that almost went in the pocket, lucky opponents, unlukcy rolls etc. There are over 6000 participants here at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, amateurs and pros. 64 of the best women and 64 of the best men are playing side by side, double elimination, where Darwins “survivial of the fittest” will determend who is still standing in the end. In a huge arena with room for close to a thousand spectators, the battle will take place. It is showtime, it is Vegas. Lets get ready to rumble!!!!!!!! The players meeting is over, all the formal stuff is done, the draw is on the board. My first opponent is Jennifer Barretta, who is ranked top 15 in the WPBA. I’m always extra nervous before my first match in a tournament. You never know what you are going to feel like at the table. What is the atmosphere going to be like etc. I started the match pretty good. 3-0. Then Barretta came back to 3-3. The next few games where a little nervous from both players, a lot of safeties. But i managed to win pretty comfortable 9-4. First round over. Next match will be against Romona Biddle from New Mexico, monday at 10.30 pm Las Vegas time.

BCA Open Las Vegas Nevada
Line has won her first match of Jennifer Baretta 9-4! Next up is Ramona Biddle.
http://www.azbilliards.com/bca9ball2006/wnew64ws.html
Getting ahead of myself I think the real difficult one to beat will be Shin mei Lin in the 3th round. If Line makes that, Corr, Jon Jones, Tsai or Sakai are the ones to beat On the other side of the bracket there also are a number of players with good chances. Gerda Hoffstatter, Allison Fisher, Jeanette Lee, Pan, Gay young Kim and last but not least Jasmin Ouschan. It's a pitty the 2 last mentioned players allready meet eachother in the first match, wich will be played this night at 03.00 European time.

Great EC day for Line
Silver is allready in the pocket for Line, as she beated Jasmin Ouschan in the semi-finals of the European Championships. She did it with a solid arm. Jasmin was unlucky on the break a few times and Line finished it of beautifull! score 9-4!
Her opponent for the Final is either Katrine Jensen or Louise Furberg.
snakkes!

Report Match Kjorsvik-Thornfeldt
On her table, Kjorsvik was controlling everything. She kept Thornfeldt seated for the first three racks as she conducted a break and run show to lead the Swede 3-0. Thornfeldt doesn think much of trailing. She waged a tactical war to even the score at three apiece before the tide turned against her and Kjorsvik kept finding ways to send the balls home. Making critical shots when she needed, Kjorsvik won the next three racks to lay ever so close to home at 6-3. Things on the table were getting tense. Thornfeldt controlled the table and appeared determined to win the day. She was playing thoughtful, certain pool and won game ten to bring the score to six to four. She broke and ran the next rack to pull the score to 6-5, but scratched on her next break. Kjorsvik ran through the first six balls with ease but failed to get shape on the seven, snookering herself behind the eight. She kicked into the good hit but left a shot for Thornfeldt to try. Thornfeldt ran the seven down the long rail into the corner but was forced to settle for a tough cut on the eight. When the eight fell she had natural shape on the nine and we went to double-hill. Thornfeldt made a ball on the snap but faced a tough shot on the one that she missed. That sealed her fate as Kjorsvik finished out the key rack to retire the affable Swede 7-6.

WC Taiwan Taipei 2006
I have to say that it was a really long flight to get to Taiwan. I have been here before, so I was prepared. But 18 hours on an air plain leaves its marks on your body. So I’m really glad we had two extra days to recover before it was time to get serious. Sunday and Monday the Norwegian troop, Ine, Knut(team leader) and myself, spent relaxing and finding restaurants were we could eat. Food is always an issue in Asia. So Fridays and Pizza Hut are greatly appreciated. We also got a little practice done in one of the many pool rooms. There is a pool room in just about every street. Tuesday we had a press conference. It is amazing how big Pool is here. The press conference was live on TV and there were cameras everywhere. The draw was also presented to us. Wednesday it was time to play. My first match was against Valerie Finny. It was not the greatest match I have ever played, but at least the always difficult first match was over and I won. One down, five to go. The second match was against the first seed in my group, Yuan-Chun Lin. Difficult match to play. It was so cold in the arena. I had three sweaters on and still my whole body was shaking. It is very hard to play pool when you can’t stand still!!!! But I managed to get the last 9-ball and won 5-4. Pjuhh! Thursday morning I had to play Yukiko Hamanishi from Japan. In this match I played really good. After being down 2-0 and 4-2, I had a great run out to win the match. The next one against Adriana Villar. That is a match I would rather not talk about at all. I guess it is not necessary to say I lost. I was so disappointed. I was sure my chances of winning the group were gone. The last match for the day was against one of the qualifiers, Akio Otani. I really had to win this one to be sure I was in the last 24. Once again it was a close match. Not at least because she had two 9-ball breaks in a row. That is devastating in a race to 5. Do I need to say I was furious at the referee? But I been doing good in hill hill matches so far this tournament, and this was no exception. I won 5-4 again, finished first in the group, and I am seeded 7th for the next round. On Saturday I play Helena Thornfeldt for a spot in the quarterfinal.

Minced Meat day
Second Round Robin day:
Thursday:
A great start for line, by beating Hamanishi in a hill hill match. Chun Lin had beaten Otani ( What a keymatch this was for the final results) and Finny won of Villar
Unfortunatly Line lost her Match against Villar. The one to win and to secure her place for the last 24 in the first place. She could lose 5-3 to Otani and then she still would be safe!!
Yukiko Hamanishi (12.00) 05.00 ET Line won 5-4 Adriana Villar (16.00) 09.00 ET Line lost 3-5 Akio Otani (20.00) 13.00 ET Line won 5-4 ( pfoehh) First they ( chinees scoresheet) said Line had lost her last match...
Score after 5 games:
Group E Played For Against Place E3: Line Kjorsvik 5- 23- 20- 1 E6: Akio Otani 5- 23- 14- 2 E2: Yukiko Hamanishi 5- 21- 17- 3 E1: Yuan-Chun Lin 5- 20- 21- 4 E4: Valerie Finny 5- 18- 22- 5 E5: Adriana Villar 5- 12- 21- 6
If you take a look at the points you would think Line ended up second. But because Otani lost 2 matches.. and Line only 1 and beated Otani, Line finishes first in her group. ( thanxs Tamara for the pointer) 8 People finishing first in their group get a bye. That means that 16 of the players going through will have to play eachother tomorrow. The 8 winners play the 8 who were seeded and had the bye. Congrats to Line.... !! Placing herself allready among the best 16. She proves us and herself to be mentally strong, playing that much hill hill games and winning them.
Next up saturday at 12.00 European Time against Helena Thornfeldt.
No play tomorrow so party time now... I guess!

And the draw is:
Line's Round Robin is:
Wednessday:
Valerie Finnie (13.00) 6.00 ET Line wins 5-3 Yuan-Chun Lin (17.00) 10.00 ET Line wins 5-4
Thursday:
Yukiko Hamanishi (12.00) 05.00 ET Adriana Villar (16.00) 09.00 ET Akio Otani (20.00) 13.00 ET
There are 8 groups of 6 players. Race to 5. The first 3 players of their group make it into the quarter finals.
The Score after the first day groups play:
Group E Played For Against Place E6: Akio Otani 2- 10- 2- 1 E2: Yukiko Hamanishi 2- 10- 4- 2 E3: Line Kjorsvik 2- 10- 7- 3 E1: Yuan-Chun Lin 2- 7- 10- 4 E4: Valerie Finny 2- 5- 10- 5 E5: Adriana Villar 2- 1- 10- 6
Line still has to play the number 1, 2 and 6 in the group on Thuersday. Hopefully she takes a few points from Otani and Hamanashi and will she give Misses Villar a donut to get herself into the last 24 group.

Getting ready for the World Championships in Taipe
In preparation for the World Championships Line won her 22th Norwegian title. On contraire to her straight pool title, she did it with a lot of flair and strong play. Hoping that she will beat her jetlag as quick as her opponents in her previous championship, we wil cross our fingers for her over here. I guess you will all do the same and then it will work out just fine. Keep checking the news as we will try to update the outcome of her matches on this site. For more news about the World Championships go to:
www.cues.com.tw/event/world/06wwpc
The english version still isn't updated... so you better go to the chinees version.

The first tournament for me in 2006 was to be the Euro-Tour stop in Prague. This was an exiting tournament for many reasons. I was really looking forward to play again, and not to mention; all the Euro-tours this year will be shown on Eurosport. I was really happy arriving in Prague on time for this tournament. A little less stress than in Malaga. Anyways…… We were 12 Norwegians, stranded in Prague, ready to cause some damage in the rankings. To be honest it didn’t exactly go as planed. My first match was against the young German, RUTHEMANN Philip. Not much to say about the match other than that he played better than me and made more 9-balls. He won 9-7. The next match turned out to be a thriller! Paul WILLIAMS, from Great Britain, took a head start and was up 5-0 before I was able to get it together. Then he missed the 9-ball to get to 6, and it all turned around. With a lot of help from my Norwegian supporters, and finally getting my a….. in gear, I was able to change it to 8-7, my advantage. But of cause it was not over yet. To close the match I missed the 8-ball. 8-8. You know on hill-hill anything could happen. And it did. He broke and started running out, but hooked himself on the 5 ball. Ball in hand for me, 4 balls left on the table. This should be my mach. The balls were laying a little tricky. I had two options on where to play position on the 6 ball, and finally decided on one. (The discussion still goes on if I made the right choice). But I didn’t get where I wanted with the cue ball and had to play safe on the 7 ball. It ended up being a very poor safety, and Williams had no problem putting it. But now the most amazing thing happened; he hooked himself behind the 9 ball. I could not believe. And neither could he. He tried playing a safety, but ended up leaving me a straight in on the 8. But the fun was not over yet. To get position for the 9 I had to draw the cue ball back into the rail with a lot of right-hand spin, but I didn’t quite make it. So I ended up having a thin cut on the 9 ball. Not exactly my favorite shot on hill-hill, but still I felt fairly confident making it. And I did, but I forgot the cue ball a little you can say. It kept rolling towards the corner pocket. The whole room stopped moving, waiting to see what happened…………. 2 cm from falling into the corner pocket, the cue ball stopped! Phjuu! I could breath again. I felt a little more lucky than I deserved. But as we all know roles on the pool table comes and goes. I guess it was my turn this time. Friday morning I had to play another Norwegian player, JOHANNESSEN Christian. Not a very good match on my behalf. We both played poorly in the beginning, but he was better at pulling himself together in the end. I lost 3-9. Of the Norwegian players Roger Lysholm, finished highest with # 33. I also want to mention Vegar Kristiansen who got knocked out the previous round by HOHMANN Thorsten, on the hill. So close. Anyways…… It was very exiting to see the final matches on television Saturday. It will be shown on Eurosport the 26th of February. Congratulations to Nick Van Den Berg with winning the tournament.

How too little sleep makes you win anyways
Eurotour Malaga:
Well Line had to make a lot of hours ( working at a new job in the poollounge elbowroom Oslo) during the last few weeks. That means sleeping is almost out of the question and like allready mentioned resulted in the fact that Line slept in and had to take a later flight to Malaga. With a stopover in Paris and what's normally done in 4 hours took about 8 hours now. Up to bed.. and prepare for the worst because the draw brought in Jasmin and Daryl Peach. Bold as we are we went in to town with a rented car instead of taking the shuttle bus. That is like being really blond because we couldn't find it. Phoned a dutch guy ( thanxs Wil) who gave us the phonenumber of Ted, who transferred his phone to Enrique ( headreferee) and managed that they wouldn't give Line and Jasmin a penalty. Hailed a cab and drove right behind it with the car but still we did not make it on time. IN THA HOUSE and that ment that the eurotour for men could start with a dominating looking Jasmin and a tired looking Line getting ready to set and go. Well the rest you know... won 3 matches and lost 2.. place 33! Went bowling in the evening. With Gilliano, Huidsjee, Kynthia and Jasmin! After that played on a soccermachine and showed are skills over there. Had a few drinks and a lot of fun.Took the early flight home to Oslo and worked till 3 in the morning again. It's great to be a working poolplayer... isn't it :-) !!
Norwegian Championships Straight pool: Let me be short about last weekend. Only 5 women competed in the Norwegian Championships Straight pool. So they had to play eachother in a poolsystem where Line finished first. On sunday she won her semifinal match and played Iselin for the Crown that afternoon. Line won in what she called the worst straight pool match she ever played. Well I say: " when the balls don't fall your way, your way make the balls fall". Enough said about that.
I wish everyone a nice christmas and a supurb New Year. Line... have a great Holliday with your family and try to enjoy your birthday as much as you can.
cheers and snakkes

Welcome
This is just a test to see if everything is working out the way we wanted it to. Line still has to adjust it and write her own words down. Be free to tell her what you think about the website. This week she will travel to Malaga to play the eurotour for men. Hope to see you there!
